Hank Willis Thomas flawlessly captures the deep history and current oppression of African Americans. He also incorporates pop culture into his photos and uses it to portray how people use it to identify themselves. He takes America’s favorite pastimes that people recognize and enjoy then turns them into something with much more meaning than most are able to recognize. His photography speaks of various relationships such as black and white and sports and the systematic oppression of the black community’s potential for success.
